Greenspring Valley Chamber Orchestra to Debut at Stevenson University
November 25, 2002
< < BACK
A new tradition will begin on Dec.10 with the debut of the Greenspring Valley Chamber Orchestra at Stevenson University.
The group of nearly 40 musicians will perform holiday selections,
along with music by Haydn, Mozart and Tchaikovsky. The premiere event
will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Inscape Theatre.
Robert Suggs, associate professor of music at the University and
music director of the orchestra, said he has thought about developing a
small orchestra for several years. He said he realized after talking
with music teachers at area private high schools and other musicians
earlier this year that the interest existed.
"There is a lot of enthusiasm there," he said. "With all the private
schools in the area, it was natural to combine forces and draw on
people from the community as well."
The group includes student and amateur musicians from ages 16 to 60
and brings talent from Baltimore, Howard, Harford and Carroll counties
and Baltimore City
Tickets for the debut performance will be $5 for the general public
and $3 for Stevenson University students, faculty and staff, as well as
for children under 12. Children under 5 will be admitted free. A
reception will follow the performance.
The group still welcomes interested musicians, including string players. For more information, contact Suggs at 410-602-7433.
