Stevenson University welcomes Jessica I. Elfenbein, Ph.D., who will
serve as the University’s first American Council for Education (ACE) Fellow.
Elfenbein will spend the 2009-2010 academic year at Stevenson, working closely
with PresidentKevin J. Manning, Ph.D., Paul
D. Lack, Ph.D., Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean, and
other Cabinet members. ACE Fellows are a select group of faculty and
administrators from U.S. colleges and universities who work at another site
while retaining their positions at their home institutions. The goal for
Fellows is to bring back new knowledge, perspectives, and experiences to their
employers.
Elfenbein is
Associate Provost for University Engagement and a professor in the Division of
Legal, Ethical, and Historical Studies at the University of Baltimore. She
holds a bachelor’s degree in American studies and religion from Bernard
College, a master’s degree in American civilization from George Washington
University, and a master’s degree and a doctorate in history from the
University of Delaware.
“If we don’t
cross-pollinate within higher education, it’s hard for all of us to do our best
work,” Elfenbein said. “I am interested in observing the creation of
Stevenson’s new Schools, the arrival of new deans, and the redesign of the
general education curriculum undertaken by Faculty Council.”
“Elfenbein is
already providing a fresh voice on a variety of academic matters ranging from
commencement and new approaches to general education to improving the marketing
of our public history program,” Lack said. “She has joined our teams
enthusiastically in the spirit of being a true partner.”
