Stevenson University announces the
appointment of James Gerard Salvucci,
Ph.D., as the founding Dean of the
School of Humanities and Social Sciences. The School encompasses the
University’s programs in English language and literature, humanities, public
history, human services, and psychology. Salvucci has taught English for eight
years at Stevenson and comes to this new role after serving two terms as the
Chair of the Faculty Council.
“Jim has always
been a consensus-builder and an innovator,” said Kevin J. Manning, Ph.D., President of Stevenson University. “He
also has the advantage of already knowing the programs and people. He will ensure
a smooth transition as we merge departments from different divisions to create
a new identity for the School of Humanities and Social Sciences and complete
our university model.”
Salvucci is a
graduate of Bard College and holds a M.A. from Queens College of the City
University of New York and a Ph.D. in English from the University of Toronto.
He has more than 18 years of college teaching experience. His career has
specialized in Restoration and eighteenth-century British literature, race and
British literature, satire, rhetoric, and composition. Salvucci also
incorporates the critical study of current artists and performers such as Bob
Dylan into his teaching. He recently served as co-chair of Stevenson’s self
study for reaccreditation by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.
“The blending of
the humanities and social sciences into a new school presents us with a wealth
of exciting possibilities,” Salvucci said.“I look forward to working with the faculty to forge a school that
offers the best of Stevenson University to its students.”
