Stevenson University announces the
appointment of two new department chairs in the Brown School of Business and Leadership. Deborah Leather, new chair of the Department of Business
Administration, will begin in July, and Larry
Burgee, new chair of the Department of Information Systems, will begin in August.
“We have found two
exceptional leaders for our departments, and we greatly look forward to working
with them to advance the mission of the School,” saidShelton Rhodes, Ph.D., Dean of the Brown School of Business and
Leadership. A key priority for the new department chairs will be to improve
existing curriculum and to create new degree programs.
“With their vision
and direction, we will give students the education and experience that they
need to succeed in today’s dynamic business environment,” added Rhodes.
Leather earned her Doctor in Business
Administration (DBA) from The George Washington University and has served in
several roles at Towson University, including as Associate Provost, Associate
Vice President for Instructional Technologies and Dean of Library, and Interim
Provost. Prior to joining Towson University, Leather served in similar roles at
Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia, for nearly a decade. She has a
proven record of scholarship and will hold the rank of Professor of Business Administration.
Burgee holds a Ph.D. in Information
Systems from University of Maryland, Baltimore County, as well as a Master of
Business Administration (MBA) from Loyola College of Maryland. He has extensive
experience in teaching abroad and in private industry, and most recently served
as Assistant Professor of e-Business and Technology Management in the College
of Business and Economics at Towson University. Prior to joining Towson
University, Burgee was the Executive Director of Lattanze Center for Executive
Studies in Information Technology at Loyola College. He will hold the rank of Associate
Professor of Information Systems at Stevenson.
The Brown School
of Business and Leadership—located on Stevenson’s Owings Mills campus—opened in
Fall 2008. In April 2009, publisher and entrepreneur Steve Forbes visited the School for its dedication andnaming in honor of Baltimore-area
builder and developer Howard S. Brown.
Home to Stevenson’sundergraduate degree programs in
accounting, economics and finance, business administration, information
systems, and legal studies, the School features a new state-of-the-art mock
trial courtroom for the University’s Forensic Studies program, a business and
law library, 12 classrooms, six computer labs, two distance learning
classrooms, and a student lounge.
