Stevenson University Librarians Lend a Hand 24/7
March 27, 2003
< < BACK
The staff at the Stevenson University library will spread its
expertise across the state as part of Maryland AskUsNow! The new
service debuted March 17 and offers around-the-clock answers to
questions and professional library services through live online chat
sessions with a librarian.
Three Stevenson University staff members will take part in the
project, which brings together 26 public, academic and law libraries at
www.askusnow.info. Maureen
Beck, Stevenson's director of library services will join head of public
services Patti Rickert-Wilbur and public services librarian Susan
Bonsteel in representing Stevenson U. in the consortium.
Librarians from Massachusetts and California will assist users
overnight, and librarians from Maryland will help people from other
parts of the country when their librarians have gone to sleep. Maryland
AskUsNow! is part of the national 24/7 Reference⢠effort.
Users will ask their question when they enter the site. The
responding librarian will search a variety of sources for an answer.
The technology used in the site will allow the user and the librarian
to see the information at the same time, and users can get a transcript
of their session for future reference.
