Post-Baccalaureate Programs in the State of Maryland

The following programs are for students who have never taken the prerequisite courses for admission to a health professions program.

University of Maryland - College Park Campus

Science in the Evening is a program for students who possess a bachelor's degree in a non-science field and they do not have the prerequisite courses for admission to health professions programs. This specific post-bac program offers students a lot of flexibility. Courses are offered in the evening to accommodate students who work full-time during the day. Students can take courses in any order as long as the prerequisites are fulfilled. The evening courses are identical to the ones offered during the day. Additional upper level science courses are offered and will allow students to strengthen their background and provide a deeper understanding of the subject matter. Goucher College

Goucher College offers a 13 month, full-time program for students who need to take the prerequisite courses to apply to medical school following completion of a bachelor's degree in another area of study. This program is not for students who have already taken the prerequisite courses and want to repeat them to obtain a higher grade. The courses are taken apart from those offered to traditional degree seeking students at the college. In addition to completing the prerequisite courses, students enrolled in this program can gain research or hospital experience and MCAT preparation. Individual and group tutoring programs are also available. For more information, visit the webiste at http://www.goucher.edu/x15377.xml or contact:

Johns Hopkins University offers a post-baccalaureate premedical program for students who possess a degree outside of the sciences. Their program generally last an academic year. Courses to complete the prerequisites for medical school are taught during the day. Students have the opportunity to participate in medical tutorials which are 1-2 semester long experiences in which they conduct either basic laboratory or clinical research or participate in a clinical practicum. Students also have the opportunity to take the course "Introduction to Clinical Medicine" which allows students to connect the information learned in courses to the practice of medicine.
