Opportunities for Patient Care Exposure/ Experience for Health Professions Careers
Health professional programs want applicants to have a clear understanding of the duties and responsibilities of their intended career. Applicants must enjoy working in a health care environment and interacting with patients. Therefore, students interested in a health professions career need to gain patient care exposures/experiences. Many health professional programs require a minimum number of hours of experience to apply for admission. For those programs without a specific hour requirement, students who have more experiences are often more competitive applicants than those students with less experience. There are many places that offer students volunteer opportunities to obtain patient care exposure/experience. Examples are hospitals, nursing homes, physical therapy offices, fire stations, dental offices, pharmacies, veterinary practices and animal shelters.
